Newcastle – UK
Newcastle Ambassador – Lizzie Adamson-Brown
Newcastle upon Tyne – often shortened to ‘Newcastle’ – is a wonderful, vibrant and creative city in the North East of England. The locals, known as Geordies are notoriously friendly.
Part of Tyne & Wear, historically Northumberland, Newcastle is situated on the banks of the River Tyne and close to the North Sea. Newcastle is steeped in history and heritage.
Today, Newcastle’s economy is thriving with learning, digital technology, retail, tourism and culture all playing a part in its success. The creative industries are rapidly growing here too.
If you fancy something more relaxing, we boast miles of stunning coastline and beaches, many of which have blue flag status. We may not be able to guarantee the weather, but if you need to shelter, I couldn’t imagine anywhere nicer than Crusoes café, right on the beach in Tynemouth. The home-made muffins are to die for!
Newcastle has plenty of independent coffee shops to indulge yourself or meet a client. Newcastle is home to Pumphreys coffee suppliers, who are a family firm, established in 1750 offering the finest quality coffee. Newcastle is also home to Rington’s tea, another local family who have been supplying the North East with the finest teas since 1907. Its distinctive delivery vehicles have become a familiar local feature.
If you fancy a lunch out or you’re entertaining clients, Newcastle is overwhelmed by a wide variety of dining and diverse tastes. Blackfriars is pretty special and housed in a Medieval monastery in the city centre.
For entertainment, Theatre Royal is the regional home of the Royal Shakespeare Company and stages world-class productions from West End musicals to quality drama. If you love to relax and watch a film, you simply cannot miss Tyneside Cinema – housed in a beautiful, old building in the city centre, this is how cinema really should be.
